Functions

Organise and support educational activities

Develop and/or adopt guidelines/recommendations with respect to clinical practice

Provide and/or support research initiatives of the members working in that particular area

Provide opportunities for exchanging opinions and building consensus

Focus on quality and educational standards through certification and accreditation that might lead to, and be achieved through several outputs, including specific training courses or documentation

Establishment of Working Groups for the development of guidelines and/or consensus to be published

Specific Responsibilities

To provide the ESGE Central Office with a ‘news piece’ of approximately 500 words, describing one or more of the SIG activities for the ESGE Newsletter twice every year at the request of the Central Office

To provide the ESGE Central Office with an update for the ESGE website and  ensure that it is continuously updated

To propose a pre-congress course and plenary session on the SIG topic for the Annual Congress

To provide an activity report twice a year at the ESGE Joint Executive, Advisory Board & SIG Chairs Meeting

To propose a Webinar every year

Structure of the Special Interest Groups (SIG)

All members of the ESGE are entitled to sign up for the membership of two SIGs of their choice. The choice of the SIGs is made at the time of new membership or renewal. Members can sign up or change their SIG membership status by updating their profile.

SIG Chair

Term of SIG Chair to be for 3 years, then to remain in the SIG as Past Chair for 3 years, appointed by the Board of Directors

Past Chair

Term of SIG Past- Chair is for 3 years

Chair Elect

Appointed by the Board of Directors for 3 years, or less when the current Chair completes their term in office

YEP Deputy Chairs

Two YEP Deputy Chairs are appointed for 3 years by the Board of Directors on the recommendation of the YEP Steering Committee

Steering Group

7-10 SIG members are appointed by the Executive Committee in consultation with SIG Officers (Chair, Chair-Elect, Past Chair and YEP Deputy Chairs) to include 2 Executive Committee Members and additional Advisory Board Members as well as Experts in the field. The SIG Officers and Steering Group are responsible for defining projects to be carried out under the SIG.

Working Groups

These groups are formed following approval by the Executive Committee at the request of the SIG, they include 5-10 experts In the field including 2 YEP Members. They are responsible for carrying out the project in the defined time frame and ensure their continuity.
