Dear family of Dr. Alberto Fradique
On behalf of the entire gynaecological endoscopic community, we would like to offer our sincere condolences on the passing of a wonderful human being, Alberto Fradique.
Alberto stands for innovation, for unremitting perseverance and above all for an incredibly valuable friendship. Despite his age, Alberto was still innovative and a reference for ambulatory operative hysteroscopy up to this day.
Normally we would have seen each other at the ESGE congress in Rome and next year we would enjoy the ESGE congress in Lisbon together with him. Now we can only pay due tribute to an exceptional hysteroscopist.
The ESGE is Incredibly grateful to Dr. Aberto Fradique for all he has done for our community, his passing is a great loss not only professionally but also personally for a lot of our collegues.
Linda, Alberto will always be in our hearts and we wish you and the family a lot of strength and courage in the loss caused by his passing.

Dear Alberto,
My good friend,
Writing about you, it is difficult to express in words all the feelings, emotions, memories, or simple records of facts and treasures that your rich life has provided me.
You were a highly skilled physician and surgeon, who systematically put the patient’s clinical wellbeing first, with a view to serving and benefiting the person you were caring for. Your vast knowledge and technical competence made you a reference to peers, without any arrogance, because you were scientifically humble and of unquestionable professional honesty.
Regarding technical/scientific knowledge and professional competence you were associated with enormous energy and willingness to innovate, progress and transfer your knowledge to the community
One of many references was your commitment to the SPEG as a founding member and the important relations and agreements we jointly realised.
A prime example was the organisation of the ESGE Congress in Lisbon (where the society was truly born) of which you were Secretary General.
This congress was also a new beginning for the European Society with a philosophy of education and innovation and we were proud to be able to contribute to the new ESGE architecture.
Also your invention, an innovative model, for the first time with electrical energy, for training in surgical hysteroscopy and resectoscopy; the multiple scientific meetings in which you collaborated (always with a drive for leadership and a driving force for success); the hundreds of lectures, moderations, conferences, video-surgery demonstrations, etc., etc., etc., and so much more!
Alberto, my friend, what fascinated me most about you, and I have told you many times, is that solid and unblemished character, that loyalty to everyone and in particular to friends, that willingness to always help, that respect for others that imposed on you a humility that only exists in the true aristocrats of the human essence.
My dear Alberto, I know that you read me and that you hear me, even though I don’t see you and I can’t hug you. We can no longer talk about the future, but you leave here, in the present, a heartfelt pain, an enormous nostalgia, but a great memory. And it is with those memories that we live. Without it we do not exist. I know that one day we will meet and embrace again. See you one day again my dearest friend,

Querido Alberto,
Meu Bom amigo
Escrevo para ti, sabendo que me vais ler, mas seguro de que não sou capaz de colocar num pequeno texto todos os sentimentos, emoções, memórias, ou simples relato de factos e preciosidades que a tua riquíssima vida me proporcionou. Para meu benefício! Mas não preciso de pôr tudo aqui, porque tivemos incontáveis e prolongadas conversas sobre todos os temas, em Portugal e nas viagens aos Congressos Internacionais, mas de forma muito particular durante os fins de semana maravilhosos que usufruí, por teu amigo e gentil convite, no ambiente de deleite da tua casa nas margens do Zêzere.
Foste um médico e cirurgião de grande capacidade, que sistematicamente colocou em primeiro lugar a visão clínica do doente, numa perspectiva de servir e beneficiar a pessoa que te procurava. Os teus vastos conhecimentos e competência técnica faziam de ti uma referência para os pares, sem “show off”, porque eras cientificamente humilde e de uma honestidade profissional inquestionável.
Ao conhecimento técnico/científico e à competência profissional associavas uma enorme energia e vontade de inovar, progredir e ensinar. Só consigo dizer muito pouco, mas sei que não vais ficar chateado porque conheces bem a amizade e admiração que tenho por ti. Cito apenas de relance, o empenho na fundação da SPEG e as respectivas direcções que conjuntamente integramos; o Congresso Europeu da ESGE (onde a sociedade verdadeiramente nasceu) de que foste Secretário Geral e as direcções dessa Sociedade Europeia que partilhamos; a construção de um modelo inovador, pela 1ª vez com energia eléctrica, para treino de Histeroscopia cirurgica e ressetoscopia; as múltiplas reuniões científicas em cuja organização colaboraste (sempre com um impulso de liderança e uma energia motora de sucessos); as centenas de palestras, moderações, conferências, demonstrações de vídeo-cirurgia, etc., etc., etc., e sei que nada disse!
Bem sabes Alberto, que o que em ti mais me fascina, e disse-te muitas vezes, é esse carácter sólido e impoluto, essa lealdade para com todos e em particular para com os amigos, essa disponibilidade para sempre ajudar, esse respeito pelos outros que te impunha uma humildade que só existe nos verdadeiros aristocratas da essência humana.
Meu querido Alberto, sei que me lês e que me ouves, embora eu não te veja e não te possa abraçar. Não podemos mais falar sobre o futuro, mas deixas aqui, no presente, uma grande dor, uma saudade enorme, mas uma memória grandiosa. E é da memória que vivemos. Sem ela não existimos. Sei que um dia nos encontraremos e nos voltaremos a abraçar.
