Since its foundation in 1994, the European Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (ESGE) has aimed to encourage the exchange of clinical experience, scientific thought and investigation among European gynaecological endoscopists and practitioners in related techniques. The ESGE encourages research and evaluation of endoscopic and related techniques. The recommendation of standards of training in gynaecological endoscopy and related specialities and the cooperation with national and international affiliated societies are further important objectives.
The society is governed by a board of directors who meet twice a year and design the strategy of the society. The daily management of the Society is assured by an Executive Board composed of 6 Officers (President, President Elect plus four Executive board Members) together with the Central Office, responsible for daily operations. In addition there is an Advisory Board which consists of 16 representative members elected by the members and the representatives of the corporate member societies.
Special Interest Groups and Working Groups were created are instrumental in the scientific evolution of the society and have published several individual and joint guidelines and recommendations over the years.
In 2019 the society purchased its official journal, Facts, Views & Vision; an international peer-reviewed open access journal which primarily publishes original scientific articles, reviews, guidelines, new techniques and instrumentation and video articles relevant to gynaecological endoscopy and surgery, gynaecological oncology, urogynaecology and reproductive surgery.
In 2020 the activities of the European Academy of Gynaecological Surgery were merged into the society who are now responsible for the GESEA Educational Programme and its further development.
The ESGE is a non-profit organization and has official seat at the High Breed Center – Diestsevest 43/0001 – 3000 Leuven, Belgium, also the address of the ESGE Central Office.
